Kill la Kill is an anime television series created and produced by Trigger. It follows Ryuko Matoi, a vagrant schoolgirl searching for the wielder of a scissor blade who murdered her father. Her search leads her to Honnouji Academy, where the student council president Satsuki Kiryuin rules with an iron will, and brings her into violent conflict with Satsuki and with the fashion empire of Satsuki's mother, Ragyo Kiryuin. Ryuko, Satsuki, and others gain martial arts superpowers from their clothing, which appears to have a will of its own.

The appeal lies in the premise of clothing as the source of power and in the intense battles that follow from it. The conflict begins as a struggle for control of the academy and expands into a wider confrontation involving the Kiryuin fashion empire. It is Trigger's first original anime television project, directed by Hiroyuki Imaishi and written by Kazuki Nakashima.
