Nagao Kei is a virtual liver affiliated with Nijisanji, a virtual liver agency operated by Anycolor Inc. Nijisanji began its activities in February 2018, and its name derives from the concept of connecting the two-dimensional and three-dimensional worlds. Livers in the group mainly broadcast live streams covering a wide range of content, including chats, game commentary, and karaoke sessions, and Nagao Kei takes part in this style of broadcasting for viewers.

Unlike earlier virtual YouTubers who centered on 3D models and pre-recorded videos, Nijisanji adopted a style built around 2D models and live streaming from an early stage, which is said to have influenced later virtual YouTubers. The group gained wide attention, including recognition in an internet buzzword award in 2019, and has maintained strong support among fans. As a member of this group, Nagao Kei is followed by many viewers.
