Albert Wesker is a virologist employed by the pharmaceutical company Umbrella. He first appears as the captain of a special forces unit within the Raccoon Police Department, initially presented as an ally before a plot twist reveals his true villainous nature. Though seemingly focused early on with advancing human evolution, he later becomes a bioterrorist intent on eradicating humanity, and his schemes continue to drive many of the disasters throughout the series' overarching story.

His appeal lies in his arrogant, intelligent, and unsympathetic characterization. Despite appearing to die, he returns having gained superhuman abilities, reinforcing his role as a persistent force shaping the narrative from behind the scenes. He is widely regarded as one of the series' most memorable antagonists.
