Saegusa Akina is a virtual live streamer affiliated with Nijisanji, a virtual YouTuber agency operated by Anycolor Inc. Nijisanji was established in 2018 with the aim of promoting live streaming using Live2D models, in contrast to the 3D-model and clip-based format that had been popularized by earlier virtual YouTubers.

The live-streaming format is characterized by real-time, two-way interaction with viewers, allowing a streamer's mannerisms and way of speaking during broadcasts to gradually build up into a recognizable character. In the case of Saegusa Akina, it is this personality and behavior displayed through streaming that viewers have come to appreciate, and which serves as material for fan-created works.
