This Pokémon Mystery Dungeon title, released for the Nintendo DS, lets the player take on the form of a Pokémon and team up with partner Pokémon to form an exploration team, venturing into a variety of dungeons. It comes in two versions with differing setups, Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness.

The central appeal lies in experiencing dungeon exploration from the viewpoint of a Pokémon and in cooperating with partner Pokémon throughout the journey. Since the two versions unfold somewhat differently, players can enjoy distinct nuances depending on which one they choose to play.
