Yuri on Ice is a Japanese television anime series centered on the sport of figure skating. The story follows Yuri Katsuki, a top-level Japanese figure skater, his idol and Russian figure-skating champion Victor Nikiforov, and up-and-coming Russian skater Yuri Plisetsky. As Yuri Katsuki and Yuri Plisetsky compete in the Figure Skating Grand Prix series, Victor takes on the role of coach for Yuri Katsuki. A notable feature of the series is that most of the competing skaters are foreign athletes already established on the international stage, and the protagonist himself is portrayed as a leading figure in Japanese men's figure skating from the very start of the story.
